The Biltmore House, a 250-room chateau, covers 4 acres totaling 175,000 square feet. Completed in 1895, the architecture is breathtaking. The gardens were designed by Frederick Law Olmstead. The Walled Garden was overflowing with color when I visited, with over 100,000 tulips and spring bulbs. Panoramic views of the Blue Ridge Mountains beckoned from the terrace. Spectacular drooping violet blooms of Chinese wisteria graced the Library Terrace while Japanese wisteria climbed the Shrub Garden pergola. Purple and white Chinese wisteria romped through the Walled Garden. Stroll acres of formal and informal gardens within Biltmore’s lush landscape.
